Clemente Parents represented at the CPS-BAC Kick-Off Conference on October 24, 2024. CPS CEO, parents of bilingual students, and school staff enjoyed learning about local BACs and an amazing cultural experience of gifted dancers and student performers. The house was packed with more than 500 participants and about 200 CPS schools.

BAC VP Ysmary Faria and new BAC representatives Liliana Ubaneja and Leonardo Gutierrez were in attendance with me.

We’ve recently begun our journey through history with ancient civilizations’ theatre! First, we started off in Egypt, where theatre was largely performed by priests wearing masks of their gods and acting out the various gods’ passions. We learned that most of the texts from this time period did not survive the weather of time due to the extremely fragile nature of papyrus scrolls (learn more HERE). Next, we moved on to Greece, where theatre was performed at large festivals celebrating the god, Dionysus. Students investigated this age of theatre via a webquest, where they learned about how important these festivals were to the ancient grecian economy, and that this is very much where theatre as we know it today began! (learn more HERE). We are also gearing up for our field trip to Timeline Theatre’s production of Falsettos in early December!

English II: Students in Ms. Gerke and Ms. Brooks’s class started their journey with Elie Wiesel’s Night. This book largely centers around one man’s experience in the Holocaust. This week, we read the quote/poem by Martin NiemÓ§ller (“First They Came”) and discussed its connections to both Wiesel’s speech (“The Perils of Indifference”) and the first chapter of Night. Students worked in groups to summarize and synthesize information from the text.

Please be on the lookout for an email from Ms. Brown. It’s a google form for class push in request.
