We are now beginning Unit 1 dealing with number sense, problem solving and exponents.
Please reach out to your math teacher if you have any questions or concerns about your student’s progress report grades

Important Dates
  • September 26th - No School for Students
  • October 17th - Quarter 1 ends
In their theatre class, 10th graders are learning about analyzing a script. We’re working on reading 12 Angry Men and plotting out how the script tells actors when and where to move on stage via self-made diagrams (see image left).

*** In other news: Auditions for our Spring Play will be on October 6th and 7th by appointment (either during their lunch period, or after school). Please have your interested student see Ms. Gerke in 710 to sign up for a time slot and get the preparatory materials.
This week in our Junior Math classes, we finished our last topics in preparation for our Summative. The Summative has students becoming financial advisors helping out a farmer construct various buildings and figuring out how much each will cost. This scenario involves having students tackle graphing the buildings on a coordinate plane to mimic blueprints so that the buildings are in 2D so that it is easier for them to calculate area and perimeter. They will also convert between units to make it more applicable to real life and make it more genuine. Finally, students will use these measurements and apply it to the cost of construction to get an idea of how much the total operation will cost. This will close out our Unit 1 and next week we will begin our Unit 2 focusing on Polynomials.

Important Dates:
  • October 13 - No School
  • October 17 - Quarter 1 Ends
This week, sophomores began their Personal Project experience. Ms. Dryjanski, the MYP coordinator, pushed into US History classes to introduce students the Personal Project, provide some examples and ideas for students, and allow students to select their top choices for mentors. Sophomores, be aware that your draft proposal for your Personal Project is due October 3rd! This will be your chance to brainstorm your learning goal, explain your personal connection to the goal and come up with ideas for what product you’d like to make. If you need support before this due date, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Dryjanski at gdryjanski@cps.edu or stop by 521!

Families, as your students start their Personal Project, the most helpful thing you can do is check in with your students throughout the process about upcoming due dates! Feel free to reference the due dates below, which were also provided as a print-out at sophomore orientation earlier this year!
Important Dates
  • October 3: Personal Project proposal due!
  • October 10: Personal Project mentors announced!
Greetings from the Arts Department!

We are approaching the end of Unit 1 in some of our classes. Mrs. Potter’s dance class will be working on their Unit 1 summative in class over the next two weeks. Students will be using descriptive writing to respond to a dance performance, presenting their own choreography, and reflecting on their process. Mr. Winn’s Visual Arts classes will also be completing their Unit 1 summatives.

Please reach out to you student’s teacher with any questions or concerns.
