English IV: Seniors are beginning an essay on a sociology text they read before Thanksgiving that examines race in America. Students are writing about race relations and how they have developed since the Civil Rights Movement. This essay is a pre-writing assignment for a larger semester-one final exam that asks students to connect two texts they have read this year to form their own argument about race in America.
DP Lang & Lit: The DP Lang and Lit Seniors are wrapping up their unit on Technology Literature Circles. They've been working to not only read the texts they chose, but analyze them with their peers, finding deeper meanings and rhetorical elements hidden within each text. Next week, they'll work on their summative, which is to record a podcast episode with their group while they discuss their novel as a whole.
SENIOR SEMINAR: The senior seminar is researching a postsecondary topic of their choice, developing a presentation, and speaking to their classmates about the information they have found. This project requires students to practice their time management and organizational skills as they work in class. For any students who need extra support, Mrs. Potter is available any day during 5th period lunch.

One of the IB Learner Profile traits we teach students to cultivate at Clemente is Reflective. Students practice this skill across in all of their classes whether that is through writing about their process, providing the teacher with feedback, or communicating with classmates about the way learning impacts them.
The end of the first semester of SY26 is approaching (December 21st), which creates a great opportunity to reflect with your student on their year so far and goals to finish strong. Here are some ideas of questions to ask (and model answering yourself!) with your student to practice the skill of reflection at home:
-
What do I see others doing around me?
-
What do I see myself doing around others?
-
Am I helping myself grow and learn?
-
What can I do differently?
-
-
What should I do the same?
-
What will that look like this time around?
-
How can I be the best me?
-
How will that help others?
-
What change can I make to benefit my world?
Questions from the following source:
Additionally, as we end the semester and reflect on our successes and areas for improvement, sophomores should be ready to hit the ground running during winter break and the new year by creating their final product for the Personal Project. Consider if you need any supplies before we leave for winter break; if there are items that will help you create your final product, be sure to submit the Personal Project supply request Google Form here!
Finally, make sure you submit Assignment #3, the success criteria and action plan, by December 12! Need extra support? See Ms. D during lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays in 622 for Personal Project tutoring!
