Clemente Parents represented at the CPS-BAC Kick-Off Conference on October 24, 2024. CPS CEO, parents of bilingual students, and school staff enjoyed learning about local BACs and an amazing cultural experience of gifted dancers and student performers. The house was packed with more than 500 participants and about 200 CPS schools.

BAC VP Ysmary Faria and new BAC representatives Liliana Ubaneja and Leonardo Gutierrez were in attendance with me.

The dance class has recently started Unit 2. Students are learning about the fundamentals of Classical Ballet, where it came from and what skills dancers need to know. They are going to be taking everything they learn about experiencing Classical Ballet and applying it to a genre of their choice. For their final project, they will be choosing any dance genre or style, researching its origins, and choreographing an original phrase based on their research.

In Unit 2, Freshmen Civics students have been discussing the American government systems and how we run our elections. This week, we are analyzing and discussing the election results from Tuesday. They are developing news literacy skills to determine which sources of information are trustworthy and how to find these sources. Using data from exit polls, students are making claims about the election and each candidate’s supporters and supporting these claims with specific facts. Finally, students have been using their research to make predictions about why voters acted like they did and how this might affect the country in the next four years.

A few of our sophomore students took part in a fun project to bring some fall spirit to the 5th floor bulletin board. With the theme “Be-Leaf in Yourself,” students helped create a beautiful display, encouraging everyone to believe in their potential.

Quarter 2 is now underway, and we’re proud of the effort and dedication our sophomores are showing. They’re working hard in their classes, setting goals, and building on their achievements from the first quarter. Let’s keep up the great momentum!
