The Freshman Law/Civics classes are focusing on our 1st Amendment rights and liberties. Currently they are selecting and researching landmark Supreme Court cases that have shaped our civil liberties in this country. Students will have to investigate the background of the case, identify what liberty/right their case is about, and follow the case as it goes to the District and Appellate courts and their rulings. After they have followed their case through the lower courts, they will have to research the arguments for the Petitioner and Respondent before the Supreme Court. Students will examine and analyze the ruling and rationale of the Supreme Court’s decision. Each student will understand how their case has shaped our civil liberties in today’s society.
Freshmen students will put their research on a google slides presentation in which they will have to logically explain the case they have chosen to the class. Each student will have to present their findings in class, while the other students will grade them with task-specific rubrics. Week 7 will be spent on presenting their findings to the class. It’s great when the students become the teacher. It will be a lot of fun!!

Sophomores, if you have yet to submit your Personal Project proposal, please do so this weekend! Your proposal is the first step in this process and is essential to set you up for success! Additionally, your mentors will be sent out at the start of next week so it is imperative to be able to connect with your mentors about your initial idea for the Personal Project and refine it from there!
Wondering when things are due or when I’ll be in your History class to start the next part of Personal Project? Look no further! The calendar for the full year is below; this is also posted in the Sophomore Google Classroom for easy reference.

We had a stellar time celebrating our DP and CP students at the Induction Ceremony this week. It was a pleasure to honor these seniors’ and juniors’ academic choices and achievements through this ceremony in which they received an IB pin from a DP or CP teacher of their choice. We are proud of you all and can’t wait to continue to watch you grow on this pathway.
