Sophomore Theatre Arts Update

In Ms. Gerke’s Theatre class, sophomores (and all other grades) have been learning how to analyze a scene in a script. Many students have been doing amazing work - articulating a character’s motivations, super objectives, and obstacles.

As the quarter ends, students will be moving on to the next unit entitled Roles in the Theatre. This unit will explore how different people and their tasks help come together to create a professional theatrical performance. They’ll explore such roles as costume designer, director, sound designer, and stage manager through practical hands-on applications in class.
On 10/15/25 Seniors will have begun the City Colleges of Chicago Application.
  • Attached to the Senior Google Classroom space are the presentation slides seniors were given to do the application, together, step-by-step. SLIDES 7-13 highlight what programs each campus offers. Review it so you know which campus to apply to
Here’s what you’ll need:
  • Social Security Number: this helps your FAFSA link to your CCC account. (If you don’t have one, no worries!)
  • Double-check your name spelling : make sure it matches exactly how it appears on your FSA ID/FAFSA. (If it doesn’t match, your FAFSA won’t be processed!)
  • Apply to the correct CCC campus. If you’re not sure which campus offers your program, check the CCC Academic Catalog, look at the attached (slides 7-13) or send me an email.
If you have any questions about the application ~OR~ if you’ve already submitted it and received emails you’re not sure about- contact: mdelrio3@cps.edu

SENIOR SEMINAR - Ms. Potter The senior seminar class is working on completing college and scholarship applications. Students may need their social security number to complete applications, so please help them remember their number.
Senior Seminar deadlines for their quarter one report card grades is Monday, October 13. You can reach out to Mrs. Potter (jtpotter@cps.edu) if you have questions or concerns.

ENGLISH IV - Mr. Saigh ^^Seniors are researching and debating the value and impact of affirmative action. They are starting to trace this back to certain current events that we have discussed throughout the first quarter, specifically around CPS budgeting issues. It is exciting to see these young minds engage with real-world concepts that have real-life consequences.

Arts Department-As we come to the close of 1st quarter, the Arts Department would like to congratulate the students who have been working toward building new skills and taking creative risks.

As we continue to support the students in all of their classes, we would like to emphasize the importance of attending school every day and on time!

Sophomores, Personal Project continues next week! Ms. Dryjanski wil be joining your US History classes next week to help get you started on the research component of the Personal Project! This might look different depending on your learning goal but get ready to start looking up background information, history, references and more around what you want to accomplish in your Personal Project! Before you begin your research, however, it will be crucial to have your proposal (Assignment #1) completed. Not yet done? Take this weekend to work on it or reach out to Ms. Dryjanski for help!

Additionally, mentors for Personal Project have been announced over email! If you have yet to look, please be sure to look and see who will be your mentor throughout this experience.
DP & CP:
Congrats on finishing off the first quarter of SY26! Now is the perfect time to connect with your teachers and DP mentor (if you elected to have a mentor) about your grades, classes, and workload. If you’re struggling, please do not hesitate to reach out to your Coordinator, Ms. Coffey at ccoffey2@cps.edu

Juniors: Remember, the Pre-ACT is on Tues October 1st. This is a great opportunity to experience this standardized test before the Spring and college applications. The best way to prepare is to get good sleep and bring your A game so you have a realistic vision of where you need to improve before the spring exam.

All DP and CP cohort students: This week, we opened the IB Lounge for lunch as a place for students to recharge, study, and connect with the IB community. Please retrieve a pass from Ms. Coffey.
