This week, DP Juniors taking DP History are working on retracing the steps that fueled Japanese expansionism and imperialism in the 19th and 20th century. Students are studying the old social systems, Meiji Restoration, and other important events like the invasion of Manchuria with the goal of understanding what makes nations capable of entering world-wide conflict.
In DP Psychology students have been studying experimental design and statistics. In class we’ve covered graphs, charts and various kinds of data in preparation for our case studies on Major Depressive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. As part of the study on the relationship between the brain and behavior, students will participate in a sheep brain dissection lab so as a class we can make parallels between the anatomically similar parts of a sheep and human brain.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM: Most seniors have accepted the invite to the space. If you have not, you will not be included on important decisions because you may not be getting the information. Please make sure you go to Google Classroom and accept the invite. Google Classroom will be where a lot of communication goes out about senior events, scholarships, college trips, etc. As of right now, there are 2 surveys. 1. Which events do seniors want to participate in this year? 2. What Luncheon menu items do you prefer for the May Luncheon? Please discuss with your parents. We will be sending information home soon with your parents to select which items they approve of.

Seniors who need credit recovery can expect to be scheduled into those classes, or Ms. Ellis & Ms. Archbold will reach out to you by the end of September. Clemente will not be a credit recovery school. Students needing credit recovery outside of school hours will be scheduled at a different campus. See your counselor with questions.

Last week we had a Senior Town hall during school on September 3. Seniors were presented information about this year from Dean Billingsley, Counselor Ellis, and GL Lead Busch, and Post-Secondary Coach Brown. Some of the topics of discussion were:
-
The budget this year: There is no money to do events or cover transportation. Dean B, and students will begin to brainstorm fundraisers etc. (Example: Millennium park is free to the public, but transportation for students is $400 per bus x 3 busses, we would need to divide that cost between students which is about $10 per student. All costs associated with events in the survey includes bussing cost and price of tickets )
-
Students have 2 surveys to take to give their opinion on which events they want to participate in knowing the cost will have to be paid (Google Classroom)
-
Implored students to discuss surveys with parents to discuss the cost of the year.
-
Discussion about due dates for FAFSA, starting the F.S.A. I.D. process, 3 college applications and graduation requirements.
-
Passed out student accounts and fees. Students and parents can discuss the information with the main office. The Prom fee can be taken off if the student does not want to attend. Other fees and account questions should be discussed with the main office before payment. Payment of accounts is requested by the business office by December 19th.

Hello families and students,
We can’t believe it’s already September! Now that students are firmly in their routines of being back in school, we are collectively working to teach and learn important Self-Management skills through the use of student planners. As discussed in an earlier newsletter, students received IB planners at the start of this month. Students, if you did not receive a planner, please complete this form ASAP. Here’s an example of a page from the planner:
Families, you can help your student continue to develop good habits by encouraging them to bring their planner to school daily and find ways to use it outside of school as well. Have a family event coming up? Suggest that they add it into their planner! Want them to tackle some chores this weekend? Students can add those chores to their To Do list! If you are interested in more ways to instill self-management routines at home and at school with your student, always feel free to reach out to Ms. Coffey, the DP/CP coordinator, or Ms. Dryjanski, the MYP coordinator.
“As of right now I really like my classes and I'm very passionate for the academic growth I will have this year.” - Junior DP Student
In MYP English I classes, students are using the IB Learner Profile Traits to reflect on their strengths and areas of growth in order to set SMART goals for the semester. We love seeing the ways students embody the spirit of IB through reflection and inquiry!

Greetings from the Arts Department! Our classes are creating and learning new skills in each of our disciplines. We are excited to see the students growing into the classes as we finish up week 4.
The theatre classes just finished up their pantomime scene performances during class this week. The student groups did a fantastic job of acting a scenario out without words and had a good time performing with their peers!
The dance class has been working on a new movement phrase with a focus on syncopated rhythms in their feet, legs, and hips. They also participated in their first formal assessment.
Our teachers are in the process of finalizing grades for progress reports. Please reach out to your student’s arts teacher if you have any questions.

- Ms. Gerke (Theatre)
- Mrs. Potter (Dance)

Q1 Postsecondary Checklist
Schoolinks-taks: This is a graduation requirement that consists of different tasks due every month. Link to Schoolinks for seniors is HERE.
Resume Review: All students MUST come see Ms. Brown or Mr. Austria in room 422 with completing this task as we’ll assist with job applications and possibly job placement.
FAFSA: FSA ID (DUE: Monday, September 29th): Students are to provide evidence of completion, whether it’s a screenshot on their phone or using a snipping tool on their laptops. Seminar teachers (Senior Seminar, TOK, EMBARC, Professional Planning) educators are the only ones we’re asking to assist with this because students need their phones. Link to FSA ID is HERE.
3 College applications are required from CPS to be completed. We’re encouraging all students to apply to at least one trade school and one job. Unless they’re solely pursuing trade school or the workforce, they’re encouraged to apply to more.
