Progress Reports were distributed to students during 8th period on October 1st!

This year, progress reports look different than before. Some students have progress reports printed through the ASPEN system. Some students have progress reports printed through the JumpRope system. Some students have BOTH! These reports depend on what type of class the student is enrolled in.

The ASPEN Progress Report shows a traditional grade A-F.

The JumpRope report shows a student’s progress on the specific strands (or skills) based on our International Baccalaureate (IB) rubrics.

If you...
  • Are confused about your student’s progress on their JumpRope report.
  • Would like to see the IB rubrics.
  • Are curious about how a students progress will result in a final achievement (or grade).
… then please check out THIS presentation, read over this explainer document, or email mmybarra@cps.edu! We are happy to email, call, or even GoogleMeet to assist you in understanding!

The Illinois EPAY system is designed to improve fiscal efficiency and
stakeholder service. We believe you will find it useful and more
user-friendly. Access can be acquired by clicking the underlined link
above.

The EPAY system does not provide individual student statements. The
system requires that you click on the link below and log-in your student
identification number and pay the desired amount. If your student is new
to RCCA and previously attended another Chicago Public School, the
former student identification number will transfer. All purchases for CTA
Bus Passes must be paid online.

Welcome to fall, Wildcats! The weather is changing and some of us has spooky festivities on our minds. We are looking forward to the following weeks and hope to continue to make changes that support our students’ learning. Progress reports came out on 10/1 and may look a little different than you are used to, so make sure you’re asking questions and seeking an understanding of your achievement levels and opportunities for growth.

Here is an update from your students’ English teachers:

In English classes currently, sophomores are reading and analyzing narratives that involve choices. So far they have read an excerpt from comedian Tiffany Haddish’s book, The Last Black Unicorn and an essay called “The Anxiety That Binds” by Carmen Maria Machado. Students are focusing on the choices authors make to leave an impact on their readers as well as how authors structure their stories with purpose. At the end of this unit, students will write their own narratives and defend their authorial choices. I have been impressed by students’ thoughtful responses and abilities to write their stories in impactful ways. Keep it up, Wildcats!

IB News
Hello Wildcats! Personal Project is almost here! For our sophomore MYP students, you will be starting the process of exploring a topic that is near and dear to your heart in a self-guided research project. With support of your teachers and IB coordinators, you will select a topic that intrigues you, do background research and create a product based on your inquiry question, all wrapped up with a reflective paper.

Want to see a glimpse of what Personal Project could be? Check out this example from a Clemente junior that they created last year, focusing on building a sustainable home model.

If this sounds like a lot, don’t stress! This is a year-long process and you will be paired with a supervisor. You will also learn more about what the process looks like in your English classes this week so it’s super important to be in classes on Tuesday and Wednesday. Your first task will be to complete a Google Form about your interests, possible topics and mentor selection. We’re looking forward to kicking this year off!

Important Dates
October 5-6: Intro to Personal Project presentations in English class
October 8: Personal Project interest form due!
