Students at Roberto Clemente Community Academy who wish to celebrate Halloween will be allowed to wear costumes to school on Friday, October 29.

To ensure that everyone in the building is able to feel safe and joyful during what is to be a fun event, students need to adhere to the following costume guidelines for Halloween. If a student arrives at school and is not following the guidelines, they will be asked to replace the costume entirely. If this is not possible, a parent will be asked to provide a change of clothes that is appropriate.

  1. Face masks are already required to meet Covid-19 safety protocols. No additional masks or face paint can be worn to cover the rest of the student’s face.
  2. No real, toy, or facsimile guns, weapons, swords, play knives, etc. are allowed.
  3. Costumes that are sexually suggestive and would otherwise violate the school’s dress code are not appropriate and cannot be worn.
  4. Costumes that are overly graphic, promote violence, use vulgar language, or otherwise might be offensive to others are not acceptable.
  5. All costumes must be sensitive to religious and ethnic groups as well as sexual and gender identities and free from any language or symbols that target or inappropriately identify groups of students.
  6. Hats or wigs will be allowed as part of the costume if they do not pose a distraction from the learning environment. They must be removed at the request of staff members.
  7. Costumes should not include items with sound effects, lights, or other components which would disrupt the classroom learning environment.
If you are not sure the costume is appropriate, it probably isn’t!
