Team 9
The freshmen class has hit the ground running after returning from a much needed Thanksgiving Break! We came together as an entire class this past Wednesday for our first town hall of the year. Students were given awards and accolades for academics, behavior and attendance. Administration celebrated the wins of the entire freshmen class. Teachers showed pictures of themselves during their own freshmen year of high school so students could guess who was who. Students and staff loved it and we are looking forward to our next incentive day on December 13th. It has been great to celebrate the freshmen, but meanwhile the work in the classroom has not stopped. We are going to be pushing hard for the next few weeks before Winter Break! In English we are continuing our work with the novel American Street. In math we are working on linear and exponential equations. In science we studying animal and plant cells and looking at molecules and organisms. In social studies we have been discussing gun violence and how to handle a search and seizure situation. Keep up the good work freshmen!

Thanks from,

The Clemente Freshmen Team

    • Freshmen, Sophomore, Fine Art, & JROTC Classes: By now your student has completed 1 quarter with teachers using IB rubrics to measure your student’s skill level on a variety of competencies (web of related skills) and assessing them on a 1-8 scale. As you noticed during report card pick up, this progress was translated into a letter grade using ASPEN. If you want to view your student’s progress in real time, log into JumpRope using the credentials pictured above.

If you are unsure of your student’s email address or ID number, please contact mmybarra@cps.edu. If your email is listed as a parent/guardian in ASPEN, the login credentials can be shared with you via email!

Hugo Film Review

Before watching the movie Hugo, I already knew that just from the movie poster that the creator of the film has done some incredible work in the past. The movie was about a young boy who works and lives inside the walls of a train station. This boy wants to rebuild a machine that his father could never finish. It will be a hard task to complete and he will meet a lot of people along the way that will help him. The boy is alone after his fathers’ sudden death and his uncle’s disappearance. He meets this girl who lives for the thrill and wants to help and learn more about the boy, hugo. A police man that works in the train station is in charge of capturing kids with no parents until someone else takes them to the orphanage and has been looking for Hugo for a while. And also a man with an unforgettable backstory.

For the most part, when people reviewed the movie, they said that they liked the film because it was a movie for cinema lovers because of all of the references to early movies and the adventure was exciting to watch. Also seeing some adventurous scenes were great to watch. But for some people like myself, It was alright but I really hoped it would have included or revolved around time travel. Nevertheless, I liked the story, it was a good adventure to watch unfold, and I liked all of the movie history the movie went into depth to, to see what kinds of stuff that movie creator went through during that time.

I genuinely liked the movie, it was definitely well crafted and high quality especially for how extreme its budget was. And when The movie set scene showed what movie making was like at the very beginning, I really liked seeing how different movies were created in the past. I also liked how they showed us what movie makers went through at the time, referring to the war that we saw in the movie. The detail put into it was phenomenal, the main characters were well thought out, and all of the acting was on point. This is definitely a movie I recommend to all people of any age.
