Clemente Family Update 1/14/2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Now that students are back in school, Roberto Clemente Community Academy must implement a few mitigations for stopping the spread of coronavirus in our school. We wanted to send a reminder reiterating our mask policies and consequences of improper mask wearing.

Masks must be worn over the nose and mouth at all times when not eating lunch in the designated lunch area. This is a non-negotiable. Students are also not permitted to eat in class or hallways. Many students this semester have chosen to forego the school lunch and attempt to eat snacks throughout the day in their classrooms. This is not safe, especially in rooms with little ventilation and close quarters.

In order to keep our school community out of quarantine we will be enforcing these consequences for students who are attempting to eat in class, remain unmasked, or do not wear their masks properly. If students refuse to comply, students will be issued a warning, have a one on one meeting if necessary, and if a student still refuses to not wear a mask, the student will be referred to the dean for further action.

  • Step 1: Whole class reminders for mask wearing/mask wearing checks at the beginning of/during class if necessary

  • Step 2: Teacher-student or staff/student conference to understand issues with mask wearing, remind students of consistent mask wearing, and explain consequences with the student, parent or guardian via phone call.

  • Step 3: Teacher refers student to security for failure to comply. Students will be sent to Dean Billingsley or Dean Tanco. Teacher fills out a misconduct form. Parents will be notified and consequences issued. After-school 1 hour detention and Saturday Detentions will be issued. In certain cases, students who outright refuse or are chronic with non-masking while still in the building will be sent to the CARE Room.

  • Step 4: Student will lose school wide privileges such as playing sports, field trips and prom/graduation

These measures are put in place to ensure the safety of all of our students during this continued pandemic.

If your RCCA scholar has not signed up for weekly COVID testing at the school building, this link (CPS Staff and Student COVID 19 Testing Registration) will take you to the registration landing page where they can select as your testing site. This is a one time registration (if your scholar is already signed up you do not need to complete this form again). Currently, testing takes place on Tuesday.
