Famility Update

Clemente Family Update 4/25/2021

Team 10
Hello, sophomores and sophomore families!
We’ve completed our first week in a hybrid setting and it was wonderful to see some new faces in person and continue to learn together remotely as well.
As we continue to get used to the hybrid setting, we want to encourage you to advocate for yourself in new ways. Check out some tips below!
  • If you’re remote and need immediate help or a question answered in the chat, consider unmuting and saying “Excuse me Mr./Mrs./Ms. _______! Can you answer my question in the chat?
  • If you’re in person and would like paper copies, email or ask your teacher in person
  • If you’re remote OR in person and do not have a laptop still, please email or ask your teacher and one will be assigned to you
In other sophomore news, check out what’s going on in Mr. Kuch’s classes:

This week in Math 2, students are continuing to work at their own pace to finish Unit 2 and begin Unit 3 work. Students will demonstrate their mastery of Unit 2 work by completing a summative assessment that asks students to create their own problem that incorporates all of the postulates and skills learned throughout the unit. Students who finish this will then move onto Unit 3, which focuses on similar figures and will pull on prior knowledge of ratios and proportions. As always, students are free to reach out with any questions about the course work during class to ensure success!

  • Hi juniors, congratulations to those of you who took the SAT last week! This is a big milestone for you in your junior year and beyond! We were really proud and impressed by everyone’s attitude on the test day.

For those of you who didn’t test yet, good luck next week! Hopefully you have signed up already to ensure that you are set for Tuesday, April 27th. If you signed up through the Google Form, you should be receiving an email from Ms. Mueller, our testing coordinator, that lets you know when to arrive, what you need to do beforehand and any other key information that will make that day easier. A super important tip is to make sure that you get a good night’s sleep the night before, be sure to eat (although Clemente will be providing a bagged breakfast) and don’t try to cram the day before. Use that day instead to relax and destress so you are in the best headspace to test the next day.

Additionally, since the SAT will be on April 27th for many juniors, it will be a day of non-attendance for other grade levels AND anyone who took the test already. The schedule for next week is below (for 11th and 12th graders). Just remember that if you are testing, you should be in the building on Tuesday!

Finally, we all were lucky enough to welcome several students back into the building this week! It was great to see some of you again and some of you for the first time. With this new hybrid model comes new challenges, which has been the theme of this year. If you are struggling with staying online while other students are in person or vice versa, please be sure to communicate with your teachers. They are doing the best they can to ensure that everyone is being supported but there may be some growing pains in the process. Flexibility is key in the coming weeks as we all figure out what hybrid looks like!

Check out some tips below on how to advocate for yourself in the hybrid setting!

A note from Mr. Crawley:
I am so excited for you to have this opportunity to document one of the most important occasions in your life to date, your high school graduation. You will be able to capture the memories that you have by having your pictures taken on picture day. We want to make sure that your pictures will actually represent something that will be happening for you. There are certain graduation requirements that CPS put in place that are necessary for you to be able to graduate this year. Completing your FAFSA is a new requirement this year and if it is not done, then you will not graduate in June, and this is NOT a joke! AGAIN, REGARDLESS of YOUR PATHWAY, PER CPS, YOU WILL NOT GRADUATE IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE FAFSA. I would like to make myself available to assist with the completion of your FAFSA. When you sign up for your pictures, I would like you to sign up for a time to complete your FAFSA. I can even work with your parent, WHILE you are taking your picture ( If I do not hear from you, then I will be coming out to visit you at your house). Please email me at mlcrawley@cps.edu or have your parent call 773-544-7400 to set up an appointment time (Morning, afternoon, or evening). We can meet online or I can come and meet with you in person. It will take less than an hour. Please let me know if there are any special circumstances that prevent you from completing the FAFSA and I will help you with an alternative if there is one available. If you reach out to me, I will make sure that you can get this requirement done! I look forward to celebrating with you!

Prom: An survey was sent earlier this week for Senior students to give feedback on the potential for a prom event. A team is exploring options and needs your feedback. The survey can be found here!

Graduation: Our date has shifted based on the availability of our new venue. We will be graduating at Soldier Field (yes, where the Chicago Bears play)! Each student will have the opportunity to invite 4 guests. Students will be expected there at 8 AM. Our doors will open for families at 8 AM and the ceremony will begin promptly at 9 AM. Parking will be available at $10 per car

Student Check-in
Hello! This is a quick check-in to see how school is going and making sure you are getting the resources and the reach out you need. This survey is created by a fellow student and will be used in the LSC meetings. There will be a survey sent out once every month. Thanks!
