Famility Update

Clemente Family Update 5/31/2021

Team 9
As we near the end of May and school year 20-21, we take time to reflect on what it’s like being a freshman. Clemente Freshman Dairana Collins was asked about her first year experience, this is what she shared:

Being a Freshman is actually cool! I mean, having to do online for school almost the entire school year and getting called a newbie scared me, but I was up for the challenge. It was fun. I got to meet the teachers at Clemente and I love them! I enjoy them helping me and teaching me even after school in their free time and helping with my work . The other students are nice. I like them but I’m antisocial as well if you say hey to me I speak back. I enjoy Roberto Clemente and mentally it’s going great . I’m just glad to have supportive teachers and friends to help me out and I helped them out and respect them. I really appreciate it and thank you for being the best working teachers y’all can be…. Shoutout to all the teachers that's been helping me trying and trying with me THANK YOUUUU!
My Time as a Freshmen

My experience being a Freshmen was amazing, but it had its ups and downs. Some positives would be that my teachers are so nice and caring. They care for all of us and are always there if we need to talk. Some negatives for me would be the fact that it took me a while to get used to remote learning, especially since I suffer from anxiety attacks which made things much harder at first. But my teachers were so understanding they even helped me out more than they think they did.

All my teachers were helpful in their own way like Ms. Sinsheimer she helped me a lot. When I was going through hard times she would put me in a breakout room and helped me make a plan on how I could do my work so I wouldn't overthink and have a mental breakdown. Also Ms. Ziemniak and Ms. Redman also helped me with my work and reminded me to take my medicine as they were very conscious of my situation. Also, let's not forget about my favorite teacher, Mr. Lamborghini aka, Mr. Landaverde. He is an amazing teacher because he makes class so fun and easy to understand. I learned so much about civics, my rights, and the law.

Overall, I loved my time as a freshman thanks to my caring teachers. I can’t believe the year is almost over, but I look forward to my Sophomore year and meeting my new teachers because my freshman teachers will be hard to top.

Hello sophomores,

This past week students were told about HALF-CAP, a celebration just for sophomores to celebrate you reaching the halfway mark to graduation. This virtual ceremony and in-person BBQ will happen on 6/15. Students will be given awards, give speeches, and play games to commemorate this important milestone.

Curious what’s going on in Chemistry classes right now? Read this blurb from Ms. Brinkers:

In Chemistry with Puli and Brinkers, students have been listening to terrible music from the 80s and 90s, answering a lot of "would you rather" questions, and learning about the law of conservation of mass and balancing equations. In the world of remote learning, we've been incorporating live demos and videos of experiments, and now that some students are back in the classroom, they were able to participate in a classic baking soda and vinegar reaction last week. We've been so impressed that students have tackled some of the more difficult Chemistry concepts this quarter with curiosity and patience--all while asking questions, making connections, and cracking jokes along the way. We're looking forward to the final stretch and hope to show students just how much they learned in this strange year of Chemistry, even if they were never able to put on their safety goggles! Feel free to reach out to Ms. Brinkers at aebrinkers@cps.edu with any questions!

Hi juniors,

Does it seem possible that we are 14 school days away from when your final grades are due? Your final grades for junior year are due by June 18th and the last day of school is June 22nd. That means that you are in the last push! For many of you, you have made it through a full school year entirely remote while some of you have had the chance to explore the new world of hybrid learning. Whatever your situation may be, we encourage you to put your best foot forward for the last few weeks and work to get your grades where you’d like them to be. Some ideas to improve your grades and your GPA as you go into your senior year are:
  • Revising low scores you received in Google Classroom
  • Turning in missing assignments
  • Reaching out to your teachers over email or Google Chat
  • Attending office hours during async time
If you need any support in prioritizing your work or determining what is the most important, ask your teachers! They can help guide you before the quarter is coming to a close and you are stressing!

Additionally, because we have Memorial Day off, our schedule next week will be BABA. The schedule is below. Most notably, we will not have a C day at all next week, which means there are no office hours on Wednesday! That will be a remote A Day instead.

Student Check-in
Hello! This is a quick check-in to see how school is going and making sure you are getting the resources and the reach out you need. This survey is created by a fellow student and will be used in the LSC meetings. There will be a survey sent out once every month. Thanks!
