Hello sophomores,
We are so looking forward to Half Cap on Tuesday 6/15 during 8th period and after school! We cannot wait to celebrate your first 2 years of high school with you. Make sure you add photos to your Slide (found on the sophomore Google Classroom) by 6/13. See you then!
On 6/16 during the school day, we will have a Post-Secondary event where there will be guest speakers, games, and opportunities to learn about summer programs as well as what to expect junior year. You have reached the point of your high school career when it’s time to start thinking about what you will do after you graduate (time flies!!), so make sure you’re there to see what that will look like.

Here is an update from Chief Silver in JROTC:
In a normal school year. JROTC would have participated in 3 parades, a drill and IDR competition, performed numerous Color Guards, taken field trips to Cantigny, competed in no less than 10 archery tournaments, hosted a Military Ball and begun preparing for Junior Cadet Leadership Camp in Delafield, WI. Which would host 600 cadets from Chicago and the surrounding area for 8 days of individual and team building activities. Of course this is not a normal school year. JROTC continues to drive ahead with archery practices on Mondays and Tuesdays. In preparation for the first ever outdoor archery competition in Illinois, scheduled for June 16 th at Clemente. This year due to Covid restrictions. Schools will conduct their own mini JCLCs on the 23 rd and 24 th for 20 cadets. At Clemente on the 23rd cadets will be trained on individual water survival techniques in the morning and team building activities in the afternoon. On the 24 th cadets will be trained on the fundamentals of archery and participate in an actual archery tournament. In the afternoon the cadets will transition to team sports.

You are one week away, juniors! You have almost made it through maybe one of the toughest years of your high school career. The majority of you took the SAT, took classes online and transitioned back into the school building. For that, we are incredibly proud of you all.

In the remaining week of school, the junior team wants to encourage you to take advantage of all the time and resources you have available. These grades are usually the last set that colleges will see when you are applying next year as a senior. Therefore, ensuring that they are as strong as possible this coming week is key! For those of you who came out to the outdoor tutoring event, great work! We hope that that helped you feel more confident about the end of the school year. Otherwise, you will have async time this coming Wednesday to check in with your teachers, complete summatives and check that you are set to go.

We hope to see you on June 21st for the end of the year celebration and community building! For some of you, it might be the first time we are meeting you in person!

Student access to COVID-19 Vaccine

The best place for students to get their COVID-19 vaccine is with their healthcare provider, who can also provide the childhood immunizations required for school attendance. COVID-19 vaccines may now be given with other vaccines on the same day. In Illinois, the vaccines required for school attendance are still required upon enrollment or no later than October 15th for most students. The COVID-19 vaccination is not required to attend school in the State of Illinois.
  • Currently, anyone aged 12+ can get vaccinated against COVID-19, regardless of insurance and immigration status
  • Pfizer is the only vaccine approved for people between age 12 and 17. It is an mRNA vaccine that requires 2 shots, scheduled at least 21 days apart
  • To find COVID-19 vaccine appointments in the community visit:
Contact the City’s vaccine call center at 312.746.4835
Note: Uber is offering free rides to and from vaccination appointments; families can find information on how to use this program on their Uber app or Uber’s website

Individuals under the age of 18 seeking vaccination need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. No Government issued ID or insurance required. The vaccine is free for everyone, regardless of immigration or insurance status.
