Freshman students,

Firstly, I hope my note finds you all healthy, safe and finding enjoyment in your official Spring Break week! We are so appreciative of your continued patience and flexibility as we roll out our plans for remote learning. Many of you have reached out, anxious about your grades and long-term learning concerns that hopefully will be ironed out as we begin officially remote learning on April 13th (this Monday).

An officially schedule has been sent out to your families for remote learning, but wanted to clarify more simply what will be expected of you:
  • Each week, each of your teachers is going to post work for you to complete by Monday at 9AM that will be due on Friday.
    • Most of this work will be posted on their Google Classroom pages. If not, they should let you know how else it will get to you.
  • You should spend M, W, F for an hour working on your Core Class (English, Math, Law, Bio) and Tu and Th for an hour working on non-core (PE, Drama, Spanish).
  • Each of your teachers will have office hours daily in which they will be available by email or Google Hangouts to help you as you work through assignments with which you have challenges.
Self-pacing through your work can be scary and daunting, especially if you have commitments outside of school that you need to honor, like working or taking care of family members. Speaking from my own experience as a grad school student, I have to be really disciplined and intentional about putting aside time to do my work and avoiding distractions while I am in this space. What we are asking you to do is not easy, but a few suggestions to help:
  1. Set aside the time we outlined (10am-2pm M-F) to do your work. Find a space where you feel you can focus best.
  2. Create a checklist daily of what you need to complete and cross them off as you do it.
  3. Put time limits on your phone for different apps you commonly use and give someone else the password so that you avoided getting distracted by that new TikTok video, the Snap from your best friend or that viral video on Facebook.
  4. Reward yourself for finishing work with something you enjoy, like playing the game, going on social media or spending time video chatting with friends. It will make completing work much more satisfying AND will help you to fill your day with things that matter most.
There have been conflicting messages, both from the news and CPS, about grading and work during this time. The expectation is that you are completing all assignments assigned to you by your teachers to the best of your ability. Getting positive credit is a great chance to boost your grades and to get a strong GPA for this semester. If you need support, you should reach out to your teachers during office hours.
Besides academic support, your teachers are also here for you to navigate personal challenges you might be facing during this time. Remember, we are human too and feeling the affects of this public health crisis as well. We need to lean on each other during this time to ensure that we are taking care of ourselves.
Feel free to contact any teacher via email if you need anything. We love you and miss you!

Hey, Juniors!

We hope you are enjoying your Spring Break. We don’t have an new date for the SAT yet but the expectation will be that you will get an opportunity to take the test (for free) at some point. Please don’t let that stop you from continuing SAT prep on Khan Academy!

On Monday after spring break, we begin remote learning. A remote learning schedule will be sent out shortly. We understand that the schedule may be difficult for some because of work, babysitting, or technology accessibility issues; the exact timing of the schedule is a strong suggestion for those with the ability to follow it but if you need to self-pace or distribute your work how it works best for you, feel free to create your own schedule. All assignments should be completed by Friday or by the due date your teacher has created for individual assignments.

The news has reported some information regarding grades that may be confusing to some of you. Working on assignments at your own pace and receiving positive credit and feedback is an amazing opportunity. All assignments will positively impact your grade! Our expectation is that you will be completing work while we are learning remotely and contacting your teachers for support.

Lastly, please join us for the class of 2021 VIP Virtual Dance Party! Connect with your friends, listen and dance to your favourite tunes mixed by Dean Rios. Also, learn about remote learning.

Counseling News
Clemente Students and Parents,

In this time of uncertainty it is important to keep your mind and body moving as much as possible. Here are 3 tips to keep you going in a positive direction:
  1. Plan out your day - Just like school, make yourself a schedule and hold yourself to it. This will make sure you are diversifying your day and being as healthy as possible.
  2. Reach out to your teachers - Whether you have questions about an assignment or just want someone to talk to, send them an email. They would love to hear from you and see how you are doing.
  3. Get outside but not in a group - Go for a walk. Go for a run. Play a sport with family in your house. Sit outside and read.
    1. Getting outside:
      1. Boosts energy
      2. Lessens anxiety
      3. Improves your sleep
