HOMECOMING WEEK

10/3/2022 - 10/7/2022

Spirit week 2022-23
Homecoming Dance 2022
Team 9
Our 9th graders’ first foray into high school math has begun with an exploration of sequences. Students are being tasked with analyzing patterns of numbers and coming up with ways of describing them both in general terms and mathematically. Our budding mathematicians have been hard at work creating their own understandings of arithmetic and geometric sequences both recursively and explicitly. They then use their understanding of the sequences to find far off terms as well as missing terms.

All throughout this process, students are continually asked to justify why they know they are correct. While this approach may be new to some of our students, especially in the math classroom, they continue to grow and persevere. The groundwork being laid now will set them up for success throught their high school careers.

This week Mr. Jakusik’s US History classes are finishing up their investigations of Native American tribes in Pre-Columbian America. Students have already studied the effects of colonialism on different parts of what is today the US. Now students of US History are taking a step back and trying to see the world through the eyes of those who came before them in history. By studying tribes such as the Huron, Iroquois, Mohawk, and many more, students are exposed to a rich history they have not come into contact with before.

Sophomores in AP US History showed their worth too by taking their first exam 3 weeks into the school year. Although the test was “impossibly hard,” everyone came out of it with a sense of victory. AP students are moving through the second period of history studying why people create governments and how social contracts shape the way people behave in a state with a government.
Junior News
In World Studies we have been analyzing the role technology has played in the transformation of human society! During this process, students have learned how to distinguish between primary and secondary sources as well as reliable and unreliable sources. This has all led up to their final project where students will use their research skills to learn about a profession they would be interested in pursuing after high school. Some of the professions chosen by students are veterinarian, robotics engineer, nurse, choreographer, mechanic, baseball operations manager, electrician, and chef. We are excited to see their final presentations!

PSAT/NMSQT
PSAT/NMSQT is just around the corner! Juniors across the nation will be completing this test on October 12th. Students have been made aware of the test date, what to expect, and their scores from last year. Our goal is growth and skill development as we move forwards through junior year. Ms. Roland is offering after school tutoring and practice for this test Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays until October 12th. If you have any questions, reach out to grroland@cps.edu
