This week in Biology in Ms. Azim’s Class!!

Students should be proud to have just wrapped up their summative lab and test last week! Students were responsible for designing their own lab experiment by filtering through 2 variables, independent and dependent variables. An dependent variable is the variable that students will actually be measuring while the independent variable is the variable that students change or manipulate! Some cool experiments were measuring the time it takes different solute waters to boil, elasticity of different silly puddys, determining which sodas have the most carbonations, and more!

This week we started Unit 2 by first allowing students to read and discover in their groups how the first cell was discovered by the scientist Robert Hooke! Students are excited to start this unit because this is the unit we will work with microscopes and cells!

Sophomores in Culinary Arts:

This week in our Culinary Arts classes the students concluded their section on The Front of the House, (Dining Room) by completing a table setting. Leading up to this assignment, we studied the different types of dining environments and the career opportunities therein. Then students individually learned a variety of professional napkin folds. We also learned the importance of understanding, and being able to replicate, a table setting for a fine dining atmosphere. For their final assessment, the students, working in teams of four, were tasked with creating a table for six, including napkin folds. The groups were able to transform this:

In under five minutes. The best time was turned in by the group that performed in 3:38 with no errors. Congrats to all the students.

Students are ending the 1st quarter strong! With 2nd quarter beginning October 24th as the students transition into the Poetry unit with joy! We will be looking closely at the question - How can perspectives change the meaning of poetry? This will allow students to bring in their own personal experiences to our classroom discussions, their writing, and the poetry we dive into along the way.

Congratulations to junior students who completed their PSAT/NMSQT Exam! Student scores will take a bit of time to process across the nation. Students should receive an email when their score is ready if their account is connected with College Board.
