In English II we are continuing to read Bodega Dreams, a story about Chino, a man trying to provide for his family who gets caught up in Willie Bodega's dream to change the Spanish Harlem neighborhood of New York City. Students are building their communication and collaboration skills as they discuss what makes a relationship toxic and how do you determine what is "right". We will continue to read this book until the end of the semester when students write an analysis for their summative essay.

Over the past couple of weeks, juniors in physics have been mastering their understanding of the laws of motion and applying them in real-world scenarios and problem solving. Students were able to apply their understanding to find reason and understanding in unfamiliar situations as well as learn a couple of tricks and skills along the way. Students are now switching gears towards building their own multi-step machines for their next solving challenge. We will be sure to share some of their creations with you!

Hello! We are now in quarter two! We have already completed 12 weeks of school, it’s hard to believe how fast it’s going! A week ago we held the Quarter 1 Senior Awards ceremony! Seniors were awarded for Honor Roll As, and A/Bs, as well as perfect attendance and 90%+ attendance, congratulations to all students who have achieved this!

Also, on November 9th, Jostens visited the seniors and we sent them home with information about cap & gown, graduation rings and more. Please make sure students order before January 9th if they want to get their items delivered on time. All orders go through Josten's information in the packet.

Last week, Seniors took part in a Senior Day of Action. During this day, seniors worked on college applications with the post-secondary team. If you need any assistance with the FAFSA or figuring out the forms, please contact MLCrawley@cps.edu and schedule a time to meet with him. This is a graduation requirement for students to complete the FAFSA, and 3+ college applications. Ask your seniors about this if they have not already started talking about it!

Graduation
We are still working on obtaining contracts to review with the LSC. When these are available, we will discuss this at an LSC meeting and the venue will be decided. Graduation is likely to be a day or two after Memorial Day. We will confirm once we know more information. It is early this year compared to other years because CPS started 2 weeks early.
Contact: Hmbusch@cps.edu for further questions.
IB nammer
Before break, sophomores began the research portion of their Personal Project! After finalizing their learning goals and determining their product, students embarked on figuring out what they need to know! Research should take some time and for that reason, research organizers are due on December 2!

Sophomores, need help before then? Come to 622 on Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch for support and access to tech! Additionally, keep track of your upcoming due dates with the full year Personal Project calendar or the monthly calendar posted at school!

Additionally, as an IB school developing internationally-minded students, the IB department is holding World Cup viewing during lunch periods while the tournament goes on! If students want to watch the games, please be sure to pick up a pass for the IB coordinators, Ms. Cales (621) or Ms. Dryjanski (521) during the morning. Be sure to eat before the game as there is no food allowed in the IB Lounge (622).

Important Dates

  • December 2: research organizers due!
  • December 5-9: Meeting #2 with your mentor!
  • December 12-16: Work on Success Criteria + Action Plan in Science classes!
