FOR AN UPDATED FAQ LIST PLEASE CLICK -> Covid-19 School Closure FAQ

During this unprecedented public health emergency, we know that you have a lot of questions about your education and the rest of the year. Information is changing daily. Please use these Frequently Asked Questions as a guide to the most updated responses from CPS and Roberto Clemente Community Academy.

Question: I am enrolled in night school. Will I still be able to earn credit?
Answer: As of Tuesday, March 17th Evening/Saturday School will be closed until CPS reopens. Teachers should provide work for the students during this hiatus. CPS has not determined how the closure will affect credit, but we do not foresee students being penalized due to this pandemic. Please complete all assigned work if possible.

Question: I am enrolled in Driver’s Ed. Since we are out of school, I will not be able to meet the seat time necessary to pass. Will I still be able to earn credit?
Answer: Students will not be penalized for school closure. Driver’s Ed will resume when school is in session.

Question: I’m a Junior and need to take the SAT. Will I be able to take it?
Answer: Although we will not be hosting the SAT (or PSAT) in April, the district and the College Board are working to reschedule the test to ensure that all Juniors have the opportunity to test. Details will be shared as they are made available.

Question: I am enrolled in an AP course and am scheduled to take the exam in May. How will this affect the exam dates?
Answer: The College Board is continuing to evaluate the situation and will make an announcement on April 3, 2020 regarding the finalized 2020 AP Exam schedule. We now know that:
  • Face to face exams will not take place but will be replaced with an online exam
  • Students who no longer want to take the exam will be able to cancel their exam without a penalty
  • Students will have free access to additional study resources through collegeboard.org
  • If you have any additional questions regarding the AP testing program please click here.
Question:: I am enrolled in an IB course and am scheduled to take the exam in May. How will this affect the exam dates?
Answer: May exams have been cancelled. That is why it is so important for you to complete IA work with teachers so that you can possibly get certificates for coursework and possibly an IB diploma. For more information, please reach out to your IB coordinator, Ms. Kulas at Akulas@cps.edu.

Question: Will my online assignments count for credit?
Answer: Online assignments do count for credit and will be used to improve your current grade.

If you were getting a low grade before the closure, this is a great time to catch up on any missing assignments, redo assignments that you did not do well on, and complete enrichment assignments.

Question: I had an IEP meeting scheduled during the closure. What will happen?
Answer: Per US Department of Education latest guidelines:

Parents and an IEP Team may agree to conduct IEP meetings through alternate means, including videoconferencing or conference telephone calls. 34 C.F.R.§300.328. Again, we encourage school teams and parents to work collaboratively and creatively to meet IEP timeline requirements.

The Case Manager will contact parents of students with IEP's/504's to see if they wish to proceed via videoconferencing or conference telephone calls. DL teachers are encouraged to reach out to the parents of their caseload students to further assist in addressing outstanding questions.

Question: What will happen to the Spring sports seasons?
Answer: Spring sports have been postponed. We anticipate spring sports starting when school begins again. The IHSA has not made any decisions related to spring sport tournaments at this time.

Question: Will Prom be cancelled?
Answer: At this time, we are planning on having our regularly scheduled Prom.

Question: Will Graduation be cancelled?
Answer: At this time, we are planning on having our regularly scheduled Graduation.

Question: I am a Senior, and I do not have a concrete post-secondary plan. Will I be able to graduate?
Answer: There is still time for you to complete your concrete post-secondary plan in order for you to graduate. CPS has not issued any change in the graduation requirements for the class of 2020. If you need additional assistance, please see the answer to the following question.

Question: I still need a lot of help with my college application process. How can I get help?
Answer: If you need assistance with your post-secondary plan, you may reach out to your counselor or the college and career coach, Mr. Crawley. There is an interactive chat that will help you and your classmates get answers to your questions. All Seniors were invited to the Google Chat by Ms. Smith. The chat is called “Post-secondary support”.

There are also district supports available to all CPS students. More information on CPS supports can be found here.
