Congratulations to Parents & Community Members for completing the Truman College Spring English class last Thursday, May 12th at Clemente! There will be a new session starting Monday, May 23rd. The FREE classes will meet twice a week, Mondays & Wednesdays 9-1pm for 3 months at Clemente. In Math 2, students are working to develop a deeper understanding of the concept of area and how it applies to real-world tasks, such as finding the cost to paint walls or buy hardwood flooring. Students will be working to develop formulas for various 2 and 3-dimensional figures by exploring their properties and using known formulas to build new formulas. At the end of the unit, students will be creating their own mini putt-putt golf courses and finding the cost of turf needed to build it.

EXCITING NEWS!!! On June 7th at 1:35pm, we will be hosting the Half Cap ceremony for sopohmores. Your student is halfway to their cap and gown at graduation and we want to celebrate them for reaching this milestone. We are honored to invite families to attend in our auditorium.

All sophomores will be invited to attend, however, only the students who meet the qualifications will walk and have their name read. To walk, they need to have turned in the Personal Project Paper, be passing all classes by June 3rd, have all needed credits or be enrolled in credit recovery (summer and night school), and have no unresolved behavior infractions.

In DP1 Language and Literature classes, we just finished reading The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. This novel packs heavy themes and ways to think about topics like internalized racism, love, sexism, and beauty standards. Students are capping off the unit with a creative summative where they can choose to redesign the book cover, create a playlist, find poems that relate to the novel, or rewrite a scene from the novel in a different text type or genre.

Next week students will be going to “IOA Bootcamp” to prepare for their Individual Oral Assessment. This is the exam through which they can earn college credit and, if they are in the Diploma Program, their IB Diploma. Please make sure your student is at school all week and on time to make sure they’re ready.
