Dear Clemente Families and Community,
|
In light of the racist attack and murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis, the subsequent rioting in Chicago, and the confusing messages in the media, I am writing to our community to offer support on behalf of the Clemente faculty and staff.
|
We are all saddened to be a witness to the challenges, anger, and fear in our society at this time. While the pandemic recently halted our life as we know it, racism and economic disparities have been present in our country since its inception. We are all tasked with addressing injustice and the root cause of the lack of respect for the dignity and value of all lives.
|
We are all processing our emotions right now, and it is important for each of us to be open and to share our feelings. Now is a good time to talk as a family about our beliefs and examine what is in our hearts. Here are some good resources to talk about racism and supporting students to cope with stress. Additionally, if your family is in need of assistance during this challenging time, you can contact the CPS Command Center for help in connecting with vital support services. Our faculty and staff will continue to act with compassion at this time and provide space for our students to process recent events. We believe in our community. We believe that the current climate in society is one that we can change by educating ourselves and by taking collective action against the systemic racism exhibited in our society and our communities every day.
|
We will continue to help our students to believe in themselves and to critically examine the causes and solutions of our current challenges so that they are empowered to create a better world for all of us based on the respect for life. We will work on our own inequities as a school and will draw on our students and families to ensure all voices are included.
|
On behalf of our resilient and diverse community, I hope everyone is staying safe and taking extra precautions. I recommend our young people stay at home as much as possible to remain safe. Please reach out if you have any concerns or suggestions as we work together to support our students and families.

Todos estamos tristes de ser testigos de los desafíos, la ira y el miedo en nuestra sociedad en este momento.
