Clemente Family Update 3/05/2024

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

The college admissions process has never been more competitive, so it is crucial for students to prepare a strong admissions campaign. This includes getting the highest possible scores on standardized tests like the SAT. Research studies show that students who spend at least 20 hours using a proven test prep program will see a rise in standardized test scores.

To help RCCA students prepare for the SAT, we have partnered with Academic Approach to present “Good Morning SAT where students will work on honing their test prep skills for success on the SAT which will be April 9th-10th 2024 . The program will start Saturday, February 10th 2024 and run every Saturday until April 6th, 2024. We will begin our instruction @ 9AM-12PM. Lunch will be provided.

This program is open to 10th and 11th graders. We are looking for a commitment from those who sign up. This is your opportunity to improve your chances of obtaining scholarships and selective college admittance. There will be a celebration for those that attend all sessions of the program.

Students can sign up here using the link https://forms.gle/grDszU4uQUk1SgXE7

In order to have a successful test prep day, please make sure your student(s):
- Get a good night's sleep
- Eat a healthy breakfast
- Do not stress! Meditate, take deep breaths, listen to music, or exercise to relax.
- Please arrive on time, doors will open at 8AM

Educationally Yours,
Devon Morales, Sr.
Principal

Illinois Tech Chicago Difference Scholarship
Beginning with the Class of 2024, all CPS applicants to the Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) will be considered for the Chicago Difference Scholarship. This is a brand new “meet-full-need” financial aid initiative in which admitted students will have the entire direct cost of attendance covered by the institution, including tuition AND room/board, after subtracting a student’s Student Aid Index. Priority will be given to admitted students from the South and West sides, but as of yet there is no publicly stated limit to the number of recipients of the scholarship. Additionally, Illinois Tech has extended the priority FAFSA deadline in order to be considered for scholarship consideration to March 15, and may extend it further if some students are still unable to submit their FAFSA by that time.

As a reminder, Illinois Tech is part of the CPS “Direct Admission” initiative. All students with a 3.4 unweighted GPA who are not initially admitted to their major of choice will be admitted to Illinois Tech through the “Discover +” pathway program, which is a full admit initiative that delays major selection until the students’ sophomore year. This is a great opportunity in particular for students from high schools with limited math and science course offerings, because it allows students to utilize their freshman year of college to take the necessary prerequisite courses (without having to remediate) in order to be eligible for certain majors. While the priority application deadline has passed, applications submitted now will still be considered on a case-by-case basis.
