Famility Update

Clemente Family Update 5/02/2020

Team 9
Freshman Parents and Students,

I hope that my note finds you and your family safe and healthy during this time.
As we enter another week of remote learning, I want to share some updates with you all as well as some suggestions for making the most of this remote learning experience. Many students have expressed feeling overwhelmed, unmotivated to complete work and disengaged from learning. I would really encourage students to reach out to their teachers and express these feelings to them. We are all working to ensure that this time creates as much normalcy and consistency for you as possible. While I wholeheartedly agree with the policy around flexible grading, given our current pandemic, I want to ensure that it does not dissuade students from doing work that will be vital to their success as they advance to Sophomore year and beyond. I hope that this instills in them a desire to learn "for learning's sake" versus just to get the grade.

Here is a link to the remote learning suggested schedule. The times are recommendations for you to spread out and plan out your time to complete work assigned by teachers. If you find that you are still confused, at the bottom are links to both teachers emails and office hours times where they are available to help you out with challenges you might be experiencing with the remote learning.

If you are still in need of technology, use the laptop reservation form. Depending on device availability, you may still be able to get tech! If you are unable to get a laptop but have a phone, be sure to reach out to your teachers by email--your teachers will help accommodate you with alternate assignments that can be picked up at school.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mrs. Ziemniak, the Freshman Grade Level Lead, via email at aziemniak@cps.edu.

Hi junior students and families,

We hope that you continue to stay safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. Remote learning is continuing and your teachers are here to support you, even if we aren’t together in the classroom.

We do not have any big changes to learning to announce but want to reshare some important links.
  • Here is the remote learning suggested schedule. Remember, the times for specific classes are suggested and not required, as we know many of you are working or helping out at home. However, if you have a flexible schedule, it is definitely a good way to structure your day and ensure you are taking care of the expected work for all your classes. Don’t forget that the second page shows your teachers’ contact information and links to Google Classrooms and Google Meets.
    • Still confused? Use this walkthrough video to make sure you understand the remote learning suggested schedule.
  • If you are still in need of technology, use the laptop reservation form. Depending on device availability, you may still be able to get tech! If you are unable to get a laptop but have a phone, be sure to reach out to your teachers by email--your teachers will help accommodate you with alternate assignments that can be picked up at school.
  • Have questions? Concerns about your junior year? Email Ms. Dryjanski, your grade level lead, at gdryjanski@cps.edu!
Please stay in touch, juniors! We miss you all and love hearing from you.

We are especially excited to announce that there are a few senior virtual events being planned by both staff and students. Those events will be announced shortly! We are excited for your participation.

To end, we want to share the words of Chris Dier. Dier is a teacher in Louisiana who had his senior year devastated by Hurricane Katrina. As most of our staff cannot fully understand the gravity of your situation, he can.

“...I feel your pain; it stings. We as educators mourn with you. Again, you are not forgotten. We see your hard work. We value your unique perspectives. We hear your audacious voices. We cherish all of it, and we will continue to do so even from afar.”

CLEMENTE SOLIDARITY FUND

Roberto Clemente Community Academy (RCCA) is a public high school at the end of the Paseo Boricua Corridor in Humboldt Park.

Our community is made up of resilient working class families from multiple parts of the city.

Many of our families have been hit hard during this pandemic. We are asking for relief for families suffering from job loss, health issues, lack of food and adequate supplies.

We want to make sure that everyone has what they need to
take care of their families. Clemente families have donated to classroom projects, supported striking teachers, and volunteered countless hours to support our school.

Now is the time to come together and support our community.

We can't do it alone but you can help.

Your donation will be given out in $200 increments in order to aide families with paying bills, rent, getting food and supplies. Please click on the donation tab to make a difference.

100% of the funds will be disbursed to Clemente families in need of immediate support.

If you are a student or parent seeking aid, or know of someone from Clemente who needs financial relief, please contact us at ClementeSolidarityFund@gmail.com.

**NOTE: This solidarity fund is in no way affiliated with RCCA or CPS.
This is an effort put forth by community members for our school community.
This is NOT a tax-deductible contribution - solidarity, not charity.*
