It is alleged that Albert Einstein once quipped that “Compound interest is the eighth wonder of the world. He who understands it, earns it; he who doesn't, pays it”. Freshmen are learning about the power of exponential growth of which compound interest is one example.

Let’s look at one very glaring example that illustrates its power. Let’s say you take a job assignment for one month, starting on the first, and you are given two payment options: Option A) Your earnings for that day will be the day of the month multiplied by $100 (for example, on Valentine’s Day your take-home pay will be $1400, or
Option B) You start out earning a penny on Day 1, and your earning double on each consecutive work day.

Which option will garner you more money? Try it out for yourself the answer might surprise you!

Sophomores are in full swing in their 22nd week of school. They are currently working on practicing their arithmetic and geometric abilities. Students are taking time to practice how to go from a recursive equation to an explicit equation, and from there being able to use an explicit equation to solve for a particular point in a sequence.
Dual Enrollment Info 2023

In the Junior grade level World Studies classes students are learning about The Great Depression, Adolf Hitler, The Holocaust, and WWII. This current unit is going to be filled with lots of debatable discussions on whether things that happened during this period were justifiable by those who did it. What were the goals by committing acts of harm and terror. Students are also learning daily Black History facts in our classes to expand their knowledge on the achievements of Black historical figures and movements of progress throughout the world.
Splash at Northwestern will be held on February 26th, 2023.

What is Splash at Northwestern? Splash at Northwestern is a student organization at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. We’re dedicated to providing unique and fun learning opportunities to high school students in the greater Chicago area, especially for students coming from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds. Our goal is to empower high school students to select classes that they enjoy and allowing students to experience a day in the life of a college student. We also want to provide valuable teaching experience and outreach opportunities to the Northwestern community.

We invite you to participate in Splash, an unconventional educational experience at Northwestern University’s Evanston campus. High school students from the Chicagoland area can take short courses in fascinating subjects that wouldn’t be covered in a traditional school curriculum. Northwestern students design their own courses in any subject they choose, from nanomaterials to sign language! High school students will then choose their classes for the day, learning from Northwestern’s brightest, and most creative undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and staff.

This year, we will be hosting Splash Winter in February 2023 and Splash Spring in April 2023. Splash Winter will be held at the downtown Northwestern campus (Streeterville) for the first time! We hope that this will be more convenient for many of our students.

Date: Sunday, February 26th, 2023 (and late April 2023!)

Location: Northwestern University Downtown Campus

Cost: Free (lunch included with registration)!Interested in teaching? Click on the Teach tab for more information!
