Here at the start of March, although the skies have been bleak, our students are shining brightly! This quarter, we've been working on making connections between equations and how to translate that to a graph. Many of our students have seen how graphs help us visualize information and make plans.

We asked one of our students, Alex C., what he thinks about what we've been learning:
"I've learned how to better understand equations and the fundamentals of it. How it works. I really like Math Lab because of that. Other teachers sometimes just give you the equation, but we learn how the formulas work, how we apply, and how they connect to the real world. I'm starting to realize that if I track the time I spend on the bus, I can find the quickest route. So I can sleep more!"

Cadets of the Month

Jaylani Sanchez Junior Cadet of the Month January 2023
Rafael Garcia Senior Cadet of the Month January 2023
During the month of February, all sophomores had the opportunity to work with actors from Timeline Theater in weekly workshops and attend the play Boulevard of Bold Dreams, a world premiere play about Hattie McDaniels, the first African-American person to be nominated for an Academy Award AND to win! Through the workshops, students learned what it means to work as an ‘ensemble,’ explored props relevant to the 1940’s setting, and made meaningful choices in their acting and blocking.
In two performances in the back box theater, sophomores got to witness the play come to life on stage with professional actors.
The next day in class, students got to meet at least one of the actors in the play in person, ask them questions about the role and their careers, and even act out scenes from the play with them! Sophomores shined in their creativity and risk-taking.
