Here at the start of March, although the skies have been bleak, our students are shining brightly! This quarter, we've been working on making connections between equations and how to translate that to a graph. Many of our students have seen how graphs help us visualize information and make plans.

We asked one of our students, Alex C., what he thinks about what we've been learning:

"I've learned how to better understand equations and the fundamentals of it. How it works. I really like Math Lab because of that. Other teachers sometimes just give you the equation, but we learn how the formulas work, how we apply, and how they connect to the real world. I'm starting to realize that if I track the time I spend on the bus, I can find the quickest route. So I can sleep more!"

In their US History classes, Sophomores are beginning the unit on global conflicts. Beginning with WWI, we will look at conflicts and how they have shaped our country and the rest of the world. Students will be researching the effects of conflicts like WWI, WWII, The Cold War, Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, and hopefully what is happening in the world around us today. Through their survey of conflicts over time students will be encouraged to develop their own areas of interest and specializations, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of international politics and diplomacy.

In AP U.S. History students are going through a writing intensive portion of the course to get ready for the AP test on May 5th. You may see AP students walking around the halls with their brains fried and hands sore, if you do please give them a shout out and pat on the back, they’re almost at the finish line!

Sophomores have reached the end of their Personal Project experience! Since October, sophomore students have been researching, exploring and creating as part of their Personal Project experience. After presenting their products that they made, which ranged from homemade video games to cooking videos to architectural layouts, students wrapped up the project with a reflective paper. These papers will be sent to the IB to get graded after being assessed internally by their mentors. As a reminder to families, this Personal Project final paper submission is one of the criteria for students to participate in Half Cap at the end of the year, a sophomore celebration that marks the halfway to graduation point!

Congratulations to all sophomores who completed the project! We are proud of you!
