Team 9
According to the To&Through project through the University of Chicago Consortium on School Research, 9th grade performance can give us some hints to not only high school graduation, but college enrollment. The fact is that 9th grade is often when students establish strong routines and behaviors to successfully navigate high school. Making sure that students are on time, prepared, and engaged can help them start their high school career on solid footing. A strong foundation can often equal a solid foundation towards high school graduation and eventually college/university enrollment.

Interested in learning more about your student’s grades and attendance? Make sure you get an account through ASPEN.

What is IB?
Around 6 years ago, Clemente became an International Baccalaureate (IB) school. So what exactly is that?

An IB school is one that is interested in using rigorous and differentiated curriculum to best prepare students for life after high school. However, unlike other programs, Clemente and IB are interested in building whole student that can be embodied in our 10 Learner Profiles.

At Clemente, there are two IB programs. The Middle Years Program (MYP) is built for 9th and 10th graders and culminates in students creating their personal project. This is a project that students match up with a selected mentor and create something from one of their interests outside of the classroom. Students have developed photographs, created tutorials, built machines and computer consoles. This exemplifies IB’s passion for developing the whole student.

For 11th and 12th graders, there is the Diploma Programme (DP). This program allows students to take 2 year courses that end with different forms of assessment to earn college credit. Unlike some AP classes, DP classes allow students to provide different types of assessments, not just multiple choice tests. These classes are not just memorization, but a development of student skills in the classroom. Students who finish the DP classes, are statistically prepared for college and life after high school, compared to students who do not take DP.
