Celebrations!

The countdown until the end of the semester has begun. The last day of classes in this first semester is February 4th! This is a reminder that in high school only you will see your semester grade populate on your GPA. Let’s end semester one strong!

Check your Aspen, email your teachers, & turn in any missing assignments!

Attendance Update
Week 17 only 3 weeks left of this semester!!! Now is a great time to start developing positive habits. ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE!!! Studies show there is a strong positive correlation between students who attend school and those who achieve higher scores on exams and overall grades- http://communication.utsa.edu/leblanc/articles/art31.pdf

It’s never too late to begin to develop positive healthy habits. I’m encouraging all freshmen to set attendance goals immediately and work to be present in every class you have from here until the end of the year!!!

What is happening in the classroom?
English I - "Due to all of the recent events *(gestures to everything going on around us in the world)* we have decided to focus on time travel! What would happen if we went back in time and we are learning lessons about the Butterfly Effect and just why we should focus on the present through the deep dive into the reading of, "A Sound of Thunder."

Spanish I - we have been continuing with our focus on writing skills! Students have been practicing conjugating -ar/-er/-ir verbs, and next week we will jump to writing complete sentences. Students will also be given several opportunities to show their ability to do this, and replace prior assessments before the end of the semester!

Biology - Bio-Students are working on summative presentations. They are researching an invasive species they've selected with the intent on becoming an expert on their particular species! After researching, students will assemble a powerpoint presentation which they will present to the class next week.

Civics - Students are focusing on gun laws in America, as well as 10 countries around the world. Students will be comparing America’s gun laws to gun laws around the world. They will be focusing on the crime rates of each country and how they correlate with their country’s gun laws.
