Hey Freshmen,

We are coming up to progress reports on March 12! Make sure you are keeping up with your grades, checking in with your teachers and asking questions for further clarification!

Ways to ask for help through e-learning
You can type in the chat, unmute, or email your teacher with the following questions:

“Could you explain that in a different way?”
“Could you jump into my document and provide me with specific feedback?”
“Do you mind making a breakout room?”
“I need some help, please!”

Spanish I: In Spanish 1, we are continuing with our unit on "La comida". This week, students got started on their first mini-summative on "Mi Plato" where they are labeling and writing about the different food groups in Spanish. If you or your student has fallen behind the last few weeks, don't worry! All 3 weekly assignments have video notes and guides posted in Google Classroom, so they should be able to get caught up on their own time!

English I: In English I, we have started our science-fiction unit. Students are exploring the genre by looking at imagery and mood evoked from the characters, settings, and themes of shows like Black Mirror, movies like Avatar, Bladerunner, Black Panther, and Dune as well as short stories by Ray Bradbury. After learning about elements of the genre, students will begin this week by writing their own original sci-fi short stories.

Civics: In Civics, we have started focusing on our 4th Amendment rights to be secure in our persons, houses, papers, and effects against unreasonable searches and seizures. Students will explore these rights by examining cases like, US v Sokolow and Illinois v Gates. They will also explore if students have these rights in schools, by examining cases like New Jersey v TLO and Safford School District v Redding. Having our freshmen know their rights is crucial to becoming responsible civic-minded young people.

Hi juniors,

How nice was it to see the sun this week and go outside in some early spring weather (fingers crossed!)? The team wants to remind you that if you are starting to think about your plans for the summer, check out this collection of summer programs that are open to CPS juniors! Many of you began to apply in Physics class and may need transcripts, letters of recommendation or other materials. Make sure to stay on top of due dates since they may be coming up soon!

Additionally, if you want to submit a shoutout for a junior, fill out this form to have it shared in the Clemente Newsletter in the coming weeks.

Finally, we will continue to remind you about SAT tutoring until April 13th rolls around. SAT tutoring is weekly on Wednesdays at 3:30! We will get together on the Junior GL Classroom Meet link. You will also receive a direct calendar invite each week to serve as a reminder! This coming week will focus on EBRW (evidence-based reading and writing) with Ms. Dryjanski. Additionally, you will be getting a visit from the counseling team soon to talk about the “whole student” approach to college applications, along with how SAT scores play into this.

Questions? Reach out to Mr. Crawley(mlcrawley@cps.edu), Ms. Mueller(tmueller1@cps.edu), Mr. Foreman(rforeman1@cps.edu) or Ms. Smith(jtsmith5@cps.edu).

From the Desk of Mr. Crawley,
I know that during the Town Hall ,many of you mentioned that you were looking for more scholarship resources,. Just like Mr Patel mentioned, create your profile on CPS Academic Works on Naviance and do it as quickly as possible to be linked with scholarships that CPS has validated. You will still need to do the individual scholarship applications that you select after finishing your profile. In addition to Academic Works, Fastweb is another site that you can find scholarships that you will qualify to apply for. The key is to apply for as many as you can so that you have more chances to get one. Focus on those two this week & reach out to me if you want more.
