NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
Spotlight by Joseph Garcias
Northeastern Illinois University is located in Chicago, Illinois. The 67-acre campus serves more than 11,000 commuter students and is located in a residential neighborhood on the northwest side of Chicago. Many students that attend Northeastern are considered non-traditional: there are many evening classes, they are supportive of the Dream Act, and there is no campus housing.
Northeastern is a fully accredited public university offering more than 80 undergraduate and graduate programs/majors. There are three main colleges at NEIU: Arts and Sciences, Business and Management, and Education. The application process was manageable, and it took me a short time to apply. The application process did have a couple of requirements, like my high school transcripts and a six-hundred word essay focusing on my background story.
The first thing that attracted me to Northeastern was the amount of students; it is a small campus. Northeastern does not have the major that I am looking for which is nursing; however, there is an academic advisor who is there to help people to transfer out to professional schools. There are over 100 clubs and organizations on campus, and a free gym for everyone to use.
