Clemente Finishes 5th in Winter Classic, Moves to 7-6
The Boys Basketball team finished 5th place in the Winter Classic at St. Francis de Sales High School over Christmas Break. The 16-team tournament hosted teams from all over the city of Chicago.
Clemente won their first game by just under 40 points over Back of the Yards College Prep. 5 players scored double figures. In the second game of the tournament, Clemente lost a tough game to Manley High School by 10 points.
In the third round game, Clemente defeated Ace Tech 69-55. Richard Labon scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds, his first career double-double. Finally, in the fifth place game, Clemente defeated Conference rival Marine Military by a score of 25 points. Senior Lamon Phillips led the team in scoring with 13 points in the best game Clemente has played all year. Clemente moved to 7-6 on the year.
At the end of the tournament, Junior Richard Labon was named part of the All Tournament Team. He was one of 7 student athletes awarded for their great performance in the tournament. Richard averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds in the tournament. Congratulations, Richard! The boys continue their conference season on Wednesday when Perspectives Math and Science Academy comes to Clemente.
