The Roberto Clemente Steel Band was started in the 1960’s by S. Thomas Henry, who then followed the program to the newly-built Roberto Clemente High School in the early 1970s. The steel band has been known throughout the Chicago area ever since, performing for the Puerto Rican People’s Parade, Dia de los Ninos Parade in Pilsen, and other venues such as Soldier Field, Shedd Aquarium, and local schools like Stowe, Anderson, Marconi, North Grand, and Oak Forest High School. The students focus on Latin-inspired music as well as Caribbean, Pop, Classical, and Hip-Hop.
