Clemente Students Accepted into Focus on Tomorrow Apprentice Program
Congratulations to Manny Velazquez and Michael Glenn for their acceptance into Focus on Tomorrow, a six week paid apprentice program at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
Focus on Tomorrow began in 2012 and has been serving students in both Chicago, IL and Miami, FL. The video production after school program partners with After School Matters to extend its outreach and improve the student’s experience. While enrolled in the program, our students will meet participants from other schools, edit and shoot video throughout the city. Project topics are chosen by the teams of students. They can include park festivals, local businesses and/or Chicago nonprofits. While producing their package, participants will identify “the story”, who they need to interview, what interview questions need to be asked to tell that story and what b-roll will add value to their piece. When the package is done, each team will write a short story to accompany the video and post it on their own blog. This is a continuation of what they have worked on this year in our broadcasting program.
The program runs from June 29th through August 14th. Michael, Manny and 27 others students made the cut from over 150 applicants citywide. The program will take place at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting, a post-secondary broadcasting school in the South Loop. Our students will be meeting there daily, Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 2 pm.
It is a great opportunity for Manny and Michael to sharpen their production skills while earning some money. This opportunity will also open other doors for them including hosting their own LIVE television show.
Congratulations to Michael and Manny!
