Broadcast Technology Program

CTE: Broadcast Technology
General overview of the Broadcast Technology program:
The objective of this program is to present an overview of the broadcast industry with plenty of hands-on projects. Students should gain confidence and understanding in a variety of media communication situations. Major units we study include: news media, with a central focus on video production and media literacy, narrative filmmaking and documentary filmmaking. Students will learn pre-production, production, and post-production techniques and standards.

Course name and description
Broadcast Technology I (10th grade)
This course introduces the field of broadcasting and other digital media. Emphasis is placed on basic production knowledge and development of audio and visual messages. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the ability to create simple projects that can be broadcast.
Broadcast Technology II (11th grade)
This course covers the use of advanced audio and video production techniques in broadcasting and/or other digital media applications. Topics include: public service announcements, documentaries, commercials, short films, newscasts, news reports, etc. Upon completion, students should be able to navigate through professional production equipment including Final Cut X.
Broadcast Technology III (12th grade)
This course continues its advanced audio and video production through a lengthier, independent project. Emphasis is placed on integrating classroom learning with related work experience. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate employability skills and perform work-related tasks.
Facilities used: Our students learn and work in a newly constructed $250,000 production classroom with two individual production studios. Available to our students are:
• digital audio recording equipment
• studio cameras with teleprompters
• CG titles
• an array of support equipment
• a green-screen wall
• field equipment production set and lighting
Recent awards and honors:
• Our students have received awards, recognition and honorable mentions in the CTE Annual High School Capstone Competition held at the Gene Siskel Film
Center.
• A few of our students received paid internships at the Illinois Center for Broadcasting and Music Garage (an audio recording studio) over the summer.
• Many of our students have received scholarships to various colleges and universities.
• Our students are invited to Job Shadow Day, which is an opportunity for students to explore career pathways they are passionate about.
Admissions Information: Culinary Arts – CTE Lottery Academy
Eligible students can apply online at apply.cps.edu. Students will be randomly selected by computerized lottery.Class of 2021 application process open on October 3rd and closes on December 9th
Note: Attendance-area students who wish to reserve a seat in Culinary Arts should formally apply for the program, even if they have automatic admission to general education at Clemente.
