Girls Varsity Soccer: The Battle of the Wildcats!
On Wednesday April 7th, the Clemente Wildcats girls Varsity soccer team travelled down south to face off Conference rivals, Phillips Wildcats. This was the first Conference meeting for Clemente. On this rainy afternoon and with a rain soaked soccer field, nothing was going to stop the ClementeLady Wildcats from getting their first win of the season. The Lady Wildcats started off the match with a quick goal by Sophomore Maria Cervantes in the fourth minute. That marked the first goal of the season for the Lady Wildcats. From that moment on, Clemente dominated possession on the opponents half of the field, creating various opportunities throughout the first half that resulted in close, missed opportunities resulting in a score at half of 1-0.
The second half began with the Clemente Lady Wildcats playing solid defense, which is comprised of Freshmen Courtnee Crawford, Maria Lorenzo, Isabel Velazquez and Jennifer Ortiz. These young ladies displayed poise and confidence as they led the Lady Wildcats to their first victory of the season. This win was an important boost of confidence as the girls move on to face Conference rivals, Disney II, at home this Saturday at 12:00pm at the Allstate Turf Field located in Humboldt Park.
