RCCA GETS BUGGY
Roberto Clemente Community Academy will be joining thousands of schools from around the world when they install their new Weatherbug system and become an official weather reporting station, providing accurate weather information from the corner of Western and Division to millions of web users and TV weather forecasters – including Chicago’s very own WGN-TV.
Purchased through the school’s technology grant, the Weatherbug system sensors “comprise the largest commercial-grade weather and climate network in the world. In addition to massive amounts of weather data we collect from our own sensors, we integrate data from sources such as the National Weather Service (NWS) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), providing our users access to the biggest global network of professional weather stations,” according to the company’s website.
Data gathered by Clemente’s Weatherbug sensors will also be applied in a variety of academic contexts, used by the school’s Radio-TV Broadcasting program and science courses. Current weather data will be available to the public on the school’s web site, or via Weatherbug phone apps.
