The GEAR UP Chicago program sponsored a college tour to Valparaiso University on Saturday, November 8th, 2014. Students from Michelle Clark, Clemente, Curie, Harlan, Kelly and Roosevelt high schools were invited to participate in this experience.
From Clemente, 9 juniors along with Clemente GEAR UP team member Billy Hayes attended this amazing opportunity in which students got to not only have a welcome presentation and tour of campus, but they also sat in mock college classes to experience what it is like to be a college student. The Clemente students who attended were: Rosaly Gonzalez, Izabel Segura, Tarique Williams, Kyle Rodriguez, Joshua Mosley, Lamon Phillips, Maricelis Torres, Johan Gonzalez and Natalis Torres.
GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded grant from the United States Department of Education that is currently working in Clemente High School with the classes of 2016 and 2017 to promote early exposure to college. GEAR UP is a partnership grant through Northeastern Illinois University with Chicago Public Schools, University of Chicago, Loyola University, Roosevelt University and Truman College.
