Wildcat Soccer: CRANE vs. CLEMENTE 5-2-2016
On Monday May 2nd, the Clemente Lady Wildcats girls Varsity soccer team ended off their regular season play with a rescheduled match against Conference rivals Crane Cougars.
The Wildcats started off the match displaying a solid back line that has carried the team all season long. During the first half, both teams struggled to make a big impact on the game, which resulted in many battles in the middle of the field. The Wildcats tried to impose themselves on the Cougar defense, but were not successful in creating goal scoring opportunities, resulting in a 0-0 tie at the end of the first half.
The Clemente Wildcats showed more determination and fight at the start of the second half, putting pressure on the Cougar defense. During the 15th minute of the second half, the Wildcats were awarded a free kick outside the 18 yard box. Freshmen, Maria Lozano, put a nice placed ball in the top right corner of the goal, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. The Wildcats continued battling for the next 10 minutes, but were not successful in putting the ball in the back of the net. With eight minutes left on the clock, the Cougars were awarded a free kick and were able to take advantage of that opportunity, tying the game 1-1. For the remainder of the match, the Wildcats played with a feeling of urgency as the clock ticked away. Many chances were created, but the Lady Wildcats were not able to get the game winning goal they had been seeking and the match ended in 1-1 tie.
With the conclusion of regular season play, the Lady Wildcats will address any concerns this week in practice in order to prepare for their IHSA Playoff Regional game against Rauner College Prep.
Next game: Rauner vs. Clemente at 6:30pm on Tuesday, May 10th, at Timothy Christian High School in Elmhurst, Illinois.
