Wildcat Soccer- OGDEN vs. CLEMENTEOn Wednesday April 27th, the Clemente Wildcats girls Varsity soccer team faced off against conference rivals, Ogden Owls. This was the first time the Lady Wildcats faced off against the Owls this season. With the rain coming down hard, the beginning of the match was off to a slow start when the Lady Wildcats struggled to make their presence felt for the first 10 minutes of the match. The Owls began to put pressure on the Wildcats defense and during the 18th minute of the match, the Owls created a nice play, which resulted in a shot that went past Freshmen goalkeeper Jessica Flores. This gave the visiting team the 1-0 lead. During the 30th minute, the Lady Wildcats were awarded a throw-in on the opponents half. Freshmen Isabel Velazquez was able to provide a long throw-in to Sophomore Maria Cervantes who used her body to turn past the Owls defender and kicked the ball past the Owls goalkeeper to make the score 1-1.

After the break, the second half began right where the first half ended. The Lady Wildcats continued to fight with both teams having to battle to keep possession of the ball. During the 48th minute, Freshmen Maria Lorenzo was called for a trip and was shown a red card. She was sent off with thirty-two minutes left in the half, which meant that the Lady Wildcats would play with a man down for the remainder of the game. The Owls offense was able to put pressure on the Wildcats defense and created a chance that resulted in a goal surpassing the Wildcats goalkeeper. The score was 2-1 in favor of the Owls with fourteen minutes left in the game. The Lady Wildcats didn’t give up and continued to fight knowing that they needed a goal to get back into the game. With ten minutes left in the match, the Lady Wildcats were able to create an opportunity and put a string of passes together, which resulted in a left-footed shot by Sophomore Maria Cervantes that went past the Owls goalkeeper, tying the game. With ten minutes left in the match, the Lady Wildcats continued to put pressure, but were not able to create a goal scoring opportunity and the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Lady Wildcats hope to finish off Conference play on a high note when they head off to face Conference rivals Crane High School this upcoming Monday.
