The Boys Basketball team will try to improve on their undefeated conference season last year. Due to their conference championship last year in the CPS Blue West conference, the boys are now in CPS White West conference, a step above last year. As the competition increases, the team will have to continue to improve.
The team hired a new basketball coach for the 2014-15 season: Adam Hoover. Adam has coached in CPS for three years. In his three years at coaching at Ogden International, all his teams have improved on their win total from the year before. He has helped student athletes get recruited, including an athlete go to a Division I school on a full scholarship. He currently teaches at Ogden International, working with mostly middle school students. Adam can be reached at achoover@cps.edu.
Along with Adam comes Brandon Ononuselogu, head coach of the JV team. Brandon, who goes by “Coach Cheese,” played football for four years at NAIA school Taylor University. After graduating with his degree, Brandon decided to coach at Taylor for a year as well. In the last few years, Brandon has graduated with another degree in Physical Therapy. In February, he will continue with his second year of playing professional football. In the near future, Brandon looks to pursue a career as a football or basketball coach and is excited to join the program.
Lastly, the Varsity Assistant Coach is Alonso Pasillas. Alonso works with the Boys and Girls Club at Clemente High School and is also the head varsity soccer coach. This is Alonso’s first year coaching basketball in CPS, but will be quite helpful as all of the students respect Coach P and he has a great relationship with many of Clemente’s athletes.
The schedule for the Boys team this season includes two tournaments, conference play, and multiple non-conference games, giving them 24 games in total – the maximum regular season games for a CPS team. They look to compete with many of traditional powerhouse schools in CPS.
