Class of 2018 Student Council Active at Clemente
By Diamond Shaw
The freshman class elected a student council at the end of September. Freshmen elected representatives who they believed could make exciting things happen for the freshman class and for Clemente High School. During student council meetings, members work together and communicate their ideas about what they can do to benefit the class of 2018. For example, they plan events such as the Quarter 1 Awards Assembly, sell candy for holidays, collect canned goods for food drives, and raise money for sports. Elected student council members are Hector Vega, Diamond Shaw, Yamir Rivera, Daniel MacDonald, and Yanin Figueroa. Members believe that being elected is a special responsibility because it teaches them how to be responsible and organized, build leadership skills, and develop IB Learner Profile traits including Open Minded, Caring, and Risk Takers. Student Council will be having its first meeting with Principal Marcey Sorensen on Monday, and will be using that opportunity to plan events, activities, and tasks for the New Year.
