Clemente Cares: IB Diploma Programme Students Take on CAS
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program students (juniors) came together for a great cause – the beginning of what will be a Clemente Cares Campaign. The DP students are charged with engaging in experiences that are creative, active and service based, what IB calls CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service). DP students took two pillars – Creativity and Service and proposed a “Clemente has Talent Show” to fundraise money for Lurie Children’s Hospital. The entire DP class put together a PowerPoint , a proposal packet, and invited a panel (Principal Dr. Sorensen, Assistant Principal Crosen, and Dean/CAS Coordinator Fuentes) to approve what is an amazing and heartfelt project.
In this presentation our students had several requests of Principal Sorensen: a four hundred dollar contribution, the use of the school auditorium for 5 days (one audition day, three rehearsal days, and the Clemente has Talent Show day), to have the show during the school day, and permission to charge a five dollar entrance fee. When words like “of course,” “yes” and “you got it” we’re spoken from Principal Sorensen’s mouth, our students could not have been more proud of themselves. It is in moments like these where students go from learners to leaders, we (Clemente staff) could not be more proud of them. Good luck DP Wildcats on implementing your CAS project!
