The Roberto Clemente Community Academy Wildcat Wrestling Team is back at it with a 30 athlete squad making them an unstoppable force.
Leading the Wildcat pack is senior, Charles Perdue. He is looking to end his high school wrestling career on a high note. Coach Tolene is now in his second season as head varsity coach for Clemente and has seen Charles change from a fresh young talent to a solid varsity wrestler and a mentor for new wrestlers on the team.
Several other student-athletes coming back include Noah Myers, who went far in the Antioch Sectional Tournament almost winning a trip to the state tournament last year. Larry Christopher is also back and even though he is a junior, he has the leadership qualities of a senior. Another heavyweight contender coming back to wrestle is Keontay Knox. Knox works hard to fulfill his student responsibilities in the classroom and for his ROTC program, however when the clock reads 3:15 you can find him on the wrestling mat with a passion to work, sweat, and compete. Coach Tolene would also like to call attention to a few more wrestlers that could surprise everybody this season. Chris Willis, John Martinez, and Kenneth Rios are positioned to be competitive this year and have set high goals for themselves.
Right now the Wildcats are in training mode, but come December 7th the team competes at Dunbar along with Gary Comer in a Tri-meet that is sure to bring the house down. Following up after the Dunbar Tri-meet, the Clemente Wildcats next stop is at Little Village on December 14th at another Tri-meet with Schurz. Come check out these matches and support the Clemente Wrestling Team!
