This week a group of Juniors from the Culinary Arts department were privileged to visit the National Restaurant Association trade show as part of their curriculum. In all, 25 students attended the show along with their instructors to gain a larger overview of the industry as a whole. At the show, the students watched live cooking demos from some TV chefs, networked with college recruiters and industry professionals, and most importantly were allowed to sample different foods from all over the world.
The restaurant show is the culminating event for the Juniors in culinary, after a year of competitions, service events, classes, job shadows and post-secondary exploration. This event helps students to see firsthand the variety and breadth of opportunities available to them in the hospitality industry. Student Laqueena Walker was asked afterward what the trip was like for her, and she said, “It was like being in food heaven!”
