Culinary Students Cater Event for Future Principals
Last week, the Clemente culinary department was tasked with preparing and serving refreshments at a meeting of future CPS principals and their mentors at Whitney Young High School. When the executives at CPS need food for their functions, they call on the best – Clemente Culinary! Sophomores, juniors, and seniors participated in creating the menu, preparing the food, and serving it to the guests. The menu consisted of assorted canapes (such as cucumber with smoked salmon and pickled onions), crudite platter, spicy chicken wings, rumaki, chocolate strawberries, cheesecake, punch and coffee service. The students put into practice the lessons they learned in the classroom and the kitchen lab here at Clemente, utilizing their cooking skills as well as service, sanitation and safety skills. The students were accompanied by their chef instructors as well as the CPS program coordinator for Culinary Arts, Chef David Blackmon. The students, their food, and their service skills were a big hit with the principals and their protégés. As the year goes on, there will be many more events, and chances to see the Clemente chefs in action.
