This week, the freshman class had its first awards assembly! The assembly’s purpose was to congratulate the freshmen on a great start to their first high school year! Some students may have struggled during the first quarter, but they overcame challenges and succeeded in many ways. The awards gave some students something to look forward to and gave others something to strive for. The students who started off well or improved themselves earned awards, which showed the freshman that the work they do will make a better future for them. The freshmen agreed that receiving awards made them feel great. The students got certificates for attendance, excellence in course subjects, Honor Roll, and most improved. Some students were recognized for exemplifying the IB Learner Profile characteristics of Caring, Balanced, and Open-Minded!
Meanwhile, there was a special appearance from the one and only Wildcat! He gave out prizes as well, and the students got to meet him! Furthermore, some of the teachers gave inspirational speeches to push the students to work harder, never give up, and make Clemente an even better place for students to learn. This special ceremony was coordinated by the members of the Freshman Student Government. They arranged the event’s prizes, certificates, and planned it all out. They also showed an anti-bullying video, made by a group of students in Mr. Pascolla’s class, which showed how bullying progresses and how it impacts others. This showed students that there still might be some bullying, but together we can stop it. Finally, there was a slideshow of all the good times the freshmen experienced in the first quarter of high school. Students who did not get any awards are now trying to push themselves to get earn them in Quarter 2, which began this week. There will surely be more awards ceremonies like this one during the rest of high school!
