Hard working, Motivated, Dedicated
Hard working, Motivated, Dedicated. These three words describe Roberto Clemente’s IB Cohort of 2017. From staying up late doing homework, being on top of their grades, helping other students, and constantly pushing themselves for greatness, they have proven that they have what it takes to be successful. Not only have the IB students at Roberto Clemente proven that they have what it takes to be a top notch student, they have also gone above and beyond what was expected of them by staying academically and socially involved through the summer months.
The summer of 2015 will be a new challenge for the 7 students pictured above, who will be attending a rigorous college connect program at DePaul University this summer. There they will learn about the “how” and “why” of going to college, and will also take a college level course to prepare them for the hard work that they will face in the IB Diploma Program as juniors in high school. Class topics range from Bioethics and 3D Bioprinting to the Anthropology of ‘Good Eats’ to topics on social justice.
Their acceptance into this summer program, however, was not an easy process. Although all of the IB students have been encouraged to participate in a summer program, these students excelled in completing and ensuring all components of their application were of the highest quality. Students were required to submit an application, an essay explaining why the student would be a good fit for the program, and provide at least 1 letter of recommendation from a teacher, although many submitted multiple letters of recommendation. After reviewing hundreds of applications from sophomore and junior level students across the city, the DePaul admissions committee accepted 7 sophomores from Roberto Clemente to be a part of this engaging opportunity.
Congratulations to these students on a job well done, and for being one of the few selected for this opportunity amongst many high schools around the city of Chicago!
