Highlight 1:
Cadet Captain, Sophia Almazar is the first recipient of the JROTC College Bound Medal (CBM). The CBM is awarded to graduating seniors who are accepted into a four year college or university. Sophia has been accepted to two universities. The first school is Valparaiso University which is located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Her acceptance letter included a four year scholarship totaling $84,000.00. The second school Sophia has been accepted to is North Park University which is located in Chicago, Illinois. Her acceptance letter included a four years scholarship totaling $40,000.00. Sophia is ranked number two in her senior class and holds a Senior Staff Office position within the JROTC program.
Highlight 2:
Fourteen Cadets represented the Roberto Clemente Community Academy JROTC program on October 22nd, 2016, during the annual JROTC Sports Challenge. The JROTC Sports Challenge is the largest gathering of cadets in a single event; with all 45 JROTC Programs participating from across the city of Chicago. The Sports Challenge consists of 8 different events. Each team event (3 legged race, pushups, curls up, 800 meter relay race, tug of war, litter carry, standing long jump, and shuttle run) are comprised of two female and two male cadets. The four individual scores are added together for a team score. There are no individual winners. It is all about teamwork. Although Clemente Cadets did not place in the top three of any of the events this year, they pursued excellence on and off the field by demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and a positive attitude.

Additional JROTC events for the month of November include the Veterans Day Parade in Hillside, Illinois on November 5th, 2016. Report Card Pick-Up day support on November 10th, 2016, and hosting the third orienteering event for all JROTC programs in Chicago on November 19th, 2016.
