On Saturday, August 6th, New Life Covenant Church set out on a mission to “declare H.O.P.E.” (Health focused alternatives, Opportunities for the future, Power of prayer, and Education readiness) for the Humboldt Park Community with a focus on the schools that serve Humboldt Park families and students. . New Life Covenant Church, led by Pastor Wilfredo “Choco” DeJesus, partnered with Roberto Clemente Community Academy (RCCA) to ensure that Clemente families and students would have access to free book bags, haircuts, physicals and much more so that all students were ready for school on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
On the morning of August 6th, Clemente took 21 families to New Life to benefit from all of the free resources that were being provided at Hopefest. Clemente parents and students were excited about the quality of book bags and supplies they received, the bag of groceries that were given to them by Pepsi-co, the physicals given by Norwegian American Hospital, and the haircuts that were given to them by community barbers and stylist that spent their day volunteering to make sure our young people looked and felt good – and ready for school! .Clemente staff also participated by hosting a table that provided Clemente gear, enrollment, and academic information for over 2,000 families in hopes that we can continue to build our enrollment with families and members of the community. Clemente and New Life staff engaged in true partnership to ensure that Humboldt Park residents were able to have a day filled with laughter, smiles, positive energy, and hope.
Thank you to the New Life Covenant staff, Matthew Rodriquez, Director of HOPEFEST and to Pastor Choco on behalf of the Roberto Clemente Community Academy family for allowing us to partner with you and for continuing to serve our families. And to all the future Wildcats that we met at Hopefest, look forward to becoming your neighborhood International Baccalaureate World School as we continue to grow and improve to meet the academic and social demands of our students and families!
