What is NHS?
NHS stands for the National Honor Society. It is a globally recognized group that values scholarship, service, leadership, and character. It is an organization developed by the National Association of Secondary School Principals to recognize students that are well-rounded in experience. It also has provided the opportunity for scholarships to students who are interested in attending college programs.
How do I get in?
Qualifications: You must be a rising Sophomore, Junior, or Senior, have and maintain a GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate personal attributes in each of the four pillars (scholarship, service, leadership, and character).
The application process is as follows:
- Submit an application to the selection committee by filling out the form here and sending a copy to our chapter adviser, Ms. Gerke (mgerke1@cps.edu).
- The selection committee (a group of at least 5 teachers from a variety of disciplines, the adviser, and the principal) will meet to evaluate your application and overall fit for our NHS chapter.
- If selected, you will be notified in the fall and inducted into the chapter with a ceremony.
What does membership mean?
Membership means that you should be actively participating in chapter meetings and activities (like service projects). Once in NHS, you will select an executive board of your peers who will largely be in charge of running the chapter.
To maintain your membership, it is expected that you maintain good academic standing (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) and have no behavior infractions. Should you fail to meet either of these qualifications, you may be removed from NHS membership.

¿Qué es el Servicio Nacional de Salud?
NHS significa Sociedad Nacional de Honor. Es un grupo reconocido mundialmente que valora la erudición, el servicio, el liderazgo y el carácter. Es una organización desarrollada por la Asociación Nacional de Directores de Escuelas Secundarias para reconocer a los estudiantes que tienen una experiencia integral. También ha brindado la oportunidad de becas a estudiantes interesados en asistir a programas universitarios.
¿Cómo entro?
Calificaciones: debe ser un estudiante de segundo, tercer o cuarto año en ascenso, tener y mantener un GPA de 3.0 y demostrar atributos personales en cada uno de los cuatro pilares (erudición, servicio, liderazgo y carácter).
El proceso de solicitud es el siguiente:
- Envíe una solicitud al comité de selección completando el formulario aquí y enviando una copia a nuestra asesora del capítulo, la Sra. Gerke (mgerke1@cps.edu).
- El comité de selección (un grupo de al menos 5 maestros de una variedad de disciplinas, el asesor y el director) se reunirá para evaluar su solicitud y su idoneidad general para nuestro capítulo del NHS.
- Si es seleccionado, se le notificará en el otoño y se le incorporará al capítulo con una ceremonia.
¿Qué significa membresía?
Ser miembro significa que usted debe participar activamente en las reuniones y actividades del capítulo (como proyectos de servicio). Una vez en NHS, seleccionará una junta ejecutiva de sus pares que estará en gran medida a cargo de administrar el capítulo.
Para mantener su membresía, se espera que mantenga un buen nivel académico (un GPA de 3.0 o superior) y no tenga infracciones de conducta. Si no cumple con alguno de estos requisitos, es posible que se le elimine de la membresía del NHS.
